CSA - What is it?
Subscription Farming, Community Supported Agriculture or CSA is an innovative concept connecting local farms with local consumers. By providing a direct link between the production and consumption of food it creates a mutually supportive partnership between a community of supporters and a farm.
Our members as consumers
have the benefit of a regional food supply: Eating within the seasons,
higher nutritional values, maximum flavor and freshness from fresh organic
produce that has been picked ripe, and usually harvested no more than the day
before delivery. They become reconnected to the land and to the people who
grow their food.
As farmers we benefit by having committed and familiar customers who develop a long-term interest in our farm. Our members financial commitments allow us to focus on growing rather than marketing our diverse selection of crops.
Helping to sustain local small farms helps to preserve the landscape of a community, strengthens local economies by keeping food dollars in local communities as well as promoting a more energy efficient society.
The consumer commits to and buys a share of the farms' harvest at the beginning of the growing season, in return, the farm commits to providing, to the best of our ability, a diet of fresh nutritious, in-season vegetables and fruits weekly throughout our growing season. The consumer has the satisfaction of knowing where their food comes from, how it is grown and the farmers who grow it.
